Hurdling Reading Difficulties

Helping your child become a better reader is one of the greatest gifts you can give your child. Once you start working with your child to become a better reader, don't stop. Set aside time every single day to read with your child. Choose an old favorite book the child knows and loves as it will make learning the words even easier. All children can learn by repetition.

Point out words on billboards, signs, bumper stickers and other places when you're out with your child. If you just read a book about bicycles and you see a sign for a bicycle shop, point it out and talk a little about the story. This will entice your child to begin pointing out words. You can make up games when you're out such as finding words that start with "t" or "c"; or count how many times you see the word "stop". This will help your child both with counting and reading.

You can further jump start your children with reading by using products from Alphagram. This set of tools helps any child learn to read with multisensory phonics based
teaching aids. Through play, your children will learn to identify letter sounds and sound out words. Match letter sounds to pictures of words containing the same letters, alphabetical order and also the very necessary skills of building words and practicing letter writing.
