Just a Minute

Have you ever tried to explain "just a minute" to a child? Much less, "you can play for 5 more minutes". Most young children have no concept of time and trying to teach them even the basics can be frustrating for you both.

Visual aides can be a huge help, especially for the younger children. Both the Time's Up Time Out Brown Bear and Frog are wonderful ways to help start them on their way to telling time. They can be used to help show when playtime is up, such as "when the timer goes off it is time to put the blocks away." Or, "you may read for five more minutes, then it is bedtime." In both cases you can even have them help set the timer, giving them a sense of control and learning.

It can also be used in anticipation of an event. For example, "you have to study for 10 more minutes then you can play" or "grandma should be here within 30 minutes". It also works great when sharing problems might occur. You can have them set the timer and tell them it will be their turn to play with a toy or sit on moms lap when the timer goes off.

It can also be useful on those rare occasions that a "time out" may be necessary. It seems to calm them a little if they can actually see the time running down and the end of time out approaching.

Whatever the reason for use, it will be an amazing and much used addition to your household.
