Overcoming Fears Through Dramatic Play

All giggling about playing doctor aside, the Learning Resources Doctors Kit is actually a very valuable form of dramatic play for kids. Many kids are nervous and apprehensive about going to the doctor - even for just a check up and playing with the very things your child may find frightening will alleviate those fears and help your child understand the basic purpose for everything the doctor does when you visit.

If your child remembers a time when she was sick with an ear infection or tummy ache, use a stuffed animal or doll and show her what a doctor would do to see how she was feeling, find the cause and give her something to make her feel better. It will let your child understand very clearly why the doctor needs to look in her sore ears or press on her tummy when she'd really prefer that didn't happen and those occasions when you need to make a trip to the doctor's office will be a whole lot less traumatic.

If your little one is 3 years old or older, your child will enjoy all the fun in the Pretend and Play Doctor Set. This set is great for one child or a whole group that want to play doctors at once. The set has 19 sturdy pieces and a battery-operated stethoscope, a pager, a cell phone that really rings, forceps, bandages, thermometer and much more. The entire kit fits neatly into a the included medical kit and can easily be taken from room to room.

You'll know when your child fully understands because you'll hear her off in her room telling her friends or stuffed animals, "Now, this won't hurt a bit....".
